How many miles can an Infiniti G35 last? When you’re in the market for a new or second-hand G35, that’s, of course, a very reasonable question to ask. After all, you’re probably looking to get the most bang for your buck. In this blog, we’ll look at this question in great detail but first, let’s start with a quick answer:
On average, an Infiniti G35 lasts between 210.000 – 230.000 miles. A G35 needs to go to the garage for unscheduled repairs about 0.51 times per year, with an 8% chance of severe problems. Furthermore, G35 owners spend an average of $540 per year on repair costs.
Having said that, we’re certainly not done. Below we’ll first explain in more detail how many miles a G35 can last. After that, we’ll also show you how much a G35 costs per year and which production years are the most and least expensive. Furthermore, we also discuss the common problems that the car can have. How Many Miles Can An Infiniti G35 Last?
First, we need to have a look at the Infiniti G35 as a group. In order to do this, we went to autotrader.com and gathered the data of the 331 G35 Infinitis that are currently for sale. From there on, we divided the sample group into groups based on the number of miles they had driven.
The results are displayed in the table below. What we can see from this is the fact that 24.70% of G35s that are for sale in the US market have a mileage of 150.000 or higher. By itself, this number doesn´t say a lot. However, we´ve written 100+ articles similar articles for different vehicles. From this, we know that a number between 3-5% is typically considered to be good. The fact that the G35 scored well over 24% means it does seem incredibly reliable at first glance.
Amount Of Miles | Percentage Of Cars |
Cars With 150.000+ | 24.70% |
Cars With 100.000 – 149.000 | 48.80% |
Cars With 45.000 – 99.999 | 23.82% |
Cars With 0 – 44.999 | 2.68% |
However, there´s certainly more to it than just that. For example, the G35 was discontinued in 2008. This means that the vehicles that are still on the road have had plenty of time to rack in the miles, whereas there´re no vehicles dragging the average down. Therefore, the data is still a bit inconclusive, but it does still seem that the G35 provides very good mileage. Let´s have a look at a few different factors to determine whether or not the G35 is worth getting.
How Reliable Is An Infiniti G35 Compared To Its Competitors?
One of the most important things that can tell us whether or not the G35 actually reliable is to look at competitors. The data from the competitors will give us a better understanding of the playing field, and we will be able to set benchmarks for the G35.
In the table below we´ve gathered data for competitors of the G35. Please keep in mind that we´ve written separate articles for every single vehicle in the table. Therefore, we´re confident in the results that we display below.
Model | Sample Size | Expected Mileage | Highest Mileage |
Infiniti G35 | 331 | 220.000 | 280.000 |
Acura TL | 877 | 255.000 | 330.000 |
BMW 3 Series | 10.398 | 240.000 | 250.000 |
Mazda 6 | 2.915 | 215.000 | 290.000 |
Mercedes-Benz C-Class | 9.763 | 180.000 | 220.000 |
Audi A4 | 3.963 | 190.000 | 250.000 |
What´s interesting about the data in the table is the fact that the results are quite a mixed bag. On one hand, we have the Acura TL and the BMW 3-series which have an expected mileage of close to or over 250.000. On the other hand, we have the A4, C-Class, and the Mazda 6 which all score close to or under 200.000 miles. The G35 seems to fall somewhere in the middle.
From this graphic, it does seem like there´re other vehicles that have a slightly longer lifespan than the G35. Personally, I feel the Acura TL does seem to be the most reliable vehicle of them all. However, this doesn´t mean the G35 isn´t a car worth getting. There´re many more factors we need to look at.
How Reliable Is A Infiniti G35 Compared To Other Infinitis?
Furthermore, we also feel it´s important to compare the G35 to other Infinitis. The reason for this is the fact that this will give us an understanding of how reliable the brand is as a whole and if there´re alternatives within the lineup of Infiniti.
In the table below, it becomes clear quite quickly that the results are mixed. However, there´s a reason for that. The Infiniti Q50 and the QX80 are both quite new and therefore haven´t had time to drive higher mileages.
Model | Sample Size | Cars With 150.000+ Miles | % Percentage Of Cars With 150.000+ | Highest Mileage |
Infiniti G37 | 881 | 71 | 8.05% | 220.000 |
Infiniti G35 | 331 | 82 | 24.70% | 280.000 |
Infiniti Q50 | 4217 | 21 | 0.49% | 160.000 |
Infiniti QX80 | 2210 | 31 | 1.40% | 230.000 |
However, what is interesting to see in the table is that the G37 has a lower percentage of vehicles crossing the 150.000 miles mark than the G35. When we dive deeper into this we find that the G37 got taken out of production in 2013, therefore the vehicles that were sold have had less time to reach higher mileage compared to the G35 that got taken out of production in 2008.
Whether or not this table speaks in favor or against Infiniti is debatable. On one hand, the G35 did great, the G37 seems to still have to prove itself, and the other vehicles are too new to provide accurate data points. So far, it does seem like Infiniti behaves like a luxury/premium brand which means the vehicles don´t reach ultra-high mileages (250.000+ regularly).
How Much Does Maintenance Cost Per Year?
Another important aspect to discuss when talking about the reliability of a vehicle is how much you can expect to pay in annual maintenance costs. To gather this data we went to Repairpal.com.
On average, you would have to spend about $476, which is an okay amount. There are other vehicles in the market that can cost a lot more than this (BMWs regularly end up at $700+ per year). However, these vehicles are often much newer. Therefore, it seems the G35 has found a middle ground in terms of maintenance costs. For example, Acuras and Lexus cars typically have similar maintenance costs.
Typically, we explain the maintenance costs per model year, however, because the G35 is an older vehicle this data is not available.
Furthermore, because the Infiniti G35 is so much similar to the Nissan 350Z, their parts are interchangeable, which makes maintenance easier.

Owners’ Reviews Of The G35s Reliability
Besides knowing all the data, it’s, of course, also essential to see how owners experience the G35. For this, we went to Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, and Cars.com. All three platforms have gathered hundreds of reviews from actual car owners. We summarized our findings in the image below.
No matter what way you put it, the owners’ ratings of the Infiniti G35 are phenomenal across the board. The lowest score the G35 gets can be found on cars.com and even this is a 4.6 out of 5-star rating. This does seem to indicate that owning a G35 is pain-free and that it also lives up to the expectations of the owners. This review sums up the sentiment quite well:
I’ve researched a lot of cars and found this to be the best bang for my buck. It is a true sports car, yet a gentleman’s car as well. Highway driving is very comfortable. It handles extremely well in autocross races also, easily beating cars such as the Porche Boxeer. My only regret is not buying sooner.

Infiniti G35 Common Problems
The thing that keeps us worried while buying a vehicle is its reliability, and we have to make sure that the one we are going to buy wouldn’t pose any major issue or even a minor one in that regard. It’s inevitable to prevent faults in a vehicle, and this vehicle is no exception.
NOTE: Before buying a used car, I always like to make sure the vehicle isn´t having any problems that you should be aware of. The easiest way to do this is by buying an OBD2 scanner. These scanners can easily be plugged into any car you’re interested in, and they’ll give you a rundown of potential problems.
Problematic Airbags
Almost all model years of the G37 have a systematic problem with the airbags (recall 10V175000). The 2005 – 2007 model years had problems with the non-deployment of the airbags due to a faulty wiring harness and related sensors.
There were also problems with the occupant classification system. This system registers whether or not someone is sitting in the passenger seat and if the airbag should be activated or not. There was a recall for the 2007 – 2008 model years (08V521000).
The problem mainly entails a faulty sensor in the passenger seat. Some mechanics advise replacing this sensor but this can be expensive and sometimes it´s unsure whether or not this will fix the issue.
Widespread Electrical Problems
This was especially a problem for the 2003 model year and extended through to the 2004 and 2005 model years. Owners complain about the fuel gauge being all over the place and the climate control malfunctioning. Other problems included check engine lights that would come up randomly without any apparent problem. Because of the randomness of the problems it was likely these problems were caused by faulty wiring or a faulty wiring harness. Both of these problems are difficult to fix.
Engine Stalling
This was especially a problem in the 2003 – 2005 model years of the G35. The crankshaft angle sensor and the camshaft position sensor would fail simultaneously (due to an improper solder joint on the circuit board) causing the vehicle to stall at low RPMs. Infiniti did issue a recall (03V455000) for the 2003 model year but the other model years were left out even though problems occurred here as well.
Other Problems
- Excessive oil consumption: mainly a problem in the 2006 model year but not in others. Owners stated oil consumption of 2 quarts per 1.000 miles.
- Sticking clutch pedal: mainly a problem in the 2006 – 2007 model years. However, the transmission has had all kinds of smaller problems throughout all model years of the G35.
- Complete failure of the third brake light. Mainly for the 2003 – 2006 model years, however, this was a very widespread problem.
Is An Infiniti G35 A Smart Buy?
Finally, we have to ask ourselves whether or not the G35 is a car that´s worth getting in the second-hand market. When we look at the potential mileage of the vehicle we see that it is a middle-of-the-pack performer. There are cars that do better and there´re cars that do worse. We would say the potential mileage of the G35 is a neutral point.
When we look at the owner’s ratings of the G35 we see that owners are very pleased with it. To us, this indicates that the car performs well in terms of reliability as well as all other aspects that are expected from a premium vehicle.
The only downside of this vehicle is that especially the 2003 – 2005 model years were quite problematic from time to time. Especially the electrical problems and the engine stalling can be considered to be serious issues. However, the 2006 and 2007 models had these problems much less.
Overall, we would say the G35 is definitely a vehicle that´s worth considering. However, keep in mind most models are getting older and that most of them will be reaching the end of their lifespan in the upcoming five years or so.
Infiniti G35 Maintenance Schedule
After going through your options, you can have a better feel for the G35 when you have an idea of the things that need maintenance regularly. The dealerships recommend changing the engine oil at 10,000 miles, but it should be changed before 7,000 miles to get the best performance and reliability.
Before/On Every 10,000 Miles
- Before every 10k miles, you have to change the engine oil, preferably, before 7k miles to have the best possible performance and reliability.
- Brake inspections
- Tire pressure check
- Diagnosis for any check engine lights
- Oil filter replacement
- Check for any oil leaks
Before/On Every 20,000 Miles
- Power steering check
- Exhaust system check
- Transmission fluid level check
- Fuel lines inspection to make sure that there is no leakage
Before/On Every 40,000 Miles
- Change fuel filter
- Flush and change hydraulic fluid
- Service fuel injectors
- Inspect the valve cover gasket, and replace it if necessary.
- Inspect the timing chain whether it’s in sync or not.
- Inspect and replace the transmission fluid
Before/On Every 60,000 Miles
- Replace the spark plug if the spark is orange
- Rotate or replace the brake rotors as per requirement
- Clean the fuel system. But if you regularly use the sea foam, you can save some bucks.
- You might consider changing the timing chain at this point, as in most cases, by this time, the timing chain starts jumping, and that is not good, you will also hear a lot of rattles from the engine if the timing chain has lost its synchronization and has worn out.
