What Is The Weight/Viscosity Of Oils Used In GMC Yukon?

The oil viscosity or weight measures how well it flows at specific temperatures. Thus, an appropriate viscosity grade must be used depending on the vehicle’s exact model and operating temperatures.

The First Generation Yukon

Engine oil viscosity grade of SAE 5W-30 is recommended for use in vehicles with light-duty emissions. Click here to find such an oil.

Engine oil viscosity grade of SAE 10W-30 is recommended for use in vehicles with heavy-duty emissions. Click here to find such an oil.

The Second and Third Generation Yukon

Engine oil viscosity grade of 5W-30 is preferred. However, engine oils with the viscosity grade of SAE 0W-30 can be used when the vehicle operates in cold temperatures. (below -29oC or -20oF). Click here to find such an oil.

The Fourth and Fifth Generation Yukon

Engine oil viscosity grade of SAE 0W-20 must be used. Click here to find such an oil.

What Is The Oil Capacity Of a GMC Yukon?

When To Change The Oil Of A GMC Yukon?

The Engine Oil Life System indicates when an oil change is required. The time between the indications for oil change varies considerably as it depends on the use of the vehicle. Many factors are taken into consideration, such as:

  • Engine Revolutions
  • Engine Temperature
  • Miles Driven

The oil change is recommended within driving 5,000 km (3,000 miles) if the oil life system is accidentally reset. However, it must be changed at least once a year.

How To Check The Oil Level Of A GMC Yukon?

To ensure the accuracy of the oil level readings, check the oil level when a fully warmed-up engine has been shut off for several minutes, and the vehicle is on level ground.

To check the oil level, first, pull the dipstick out with the help of its hoop. Clean the dipstick properly, place it back in completely, pull it out again, and check the oil level.

Add one quart of oil if the oil level is below the cross-hatched region on the dipstick. Oil levels above or below the acceptable range shown on the dipstick are harmful to the engine.

How To Reset The Oil Level / Oil Life Of A GMC Yukon?

The Engine Oil Life System has to be manually reset after it has indicated that an oil change is required. To reset the system using the DIC, follow the steps below.

  1. On the DIC, display the “REMAINING OIL LIFE”
  2. Press and hold the SET/RESET button or the Tick button until the oil life shown is 100%
  3. To reset the system using the accelerator pedal, follow the steps below.
  4. Switch the ignition to ON/RUN, with the engine off.
  5. Slowly and completely press the accelerator pedal down three times within five seconds.
