The Oil Type, Weight, And Capacity Of A Chevy Cruze

We have written quite a bit about the Chevrolet Cruze. We will answer all your questions about another essential element, the engine oil. Before we dive into those burning questions, let’s take a look at a short answer.

For the gasoline engines of the first and second generations, we recommend the use of ACDelco dexos1 full synthetic engine oil. The diesel engines of the Chevrolet Cruze use ACDelco dexos2 engine oil.

*The engine oils used in Chevrolet Cruze are not limited to these brands only. All engine oils fulfilling the requirements below will work well with your Chevrolet Cruze.

When To Change The Oil Of A Chevrolet Cruze?

The Engine Oil Life System is installed in the vehicle, which gives a signal when an oil change is required. The message, “CHANGE OIL SOON”, is displayed. The mileage at which the signal is given varies considerably. It depends on engine temperature, engine revolutions, and miles driven.

Once the message has been displayed, change the engine oil within 1,000 km (600 miles). Under ideal driving conditions, no oil change may be required for up to a year. However, the oil must be changed at least once a year. If the system is accidentally reset, the oil must be changed within 5,000 km (3,000 miles).

How To Check The Oil Level Of A Chevrolet Cruze?

It is recommended to check the oil level every 650 km (400 miles), especially before a long trip. To improve the accuracy of the oil level readings, ensure that the vehicle is on level ground and the engine has been shut off for at least two hours.

To check the oil level:

  • Pull out the dipstick using its hoop.
  • Wipe the dipstick clean.
  • Push it back in completely.
  • Pull it out again.
  • Check the oil level while keeping the tip down.

Add one quart of oil when the oil level is below the cross-hatched region and the engine has been shut off for 15 minutes when checking the oil level. Recheck the oil level to ensure it is in the dipstick’s recommended zone.

How To Reset The Oil Level / Oil Life Of A Chevrolet Cruze?

The Engine Oil Life System has to be manually reset once the oil has been replaced. This will return oil life to 100% and stop the change engine oil soon alert from displaying.

To reset the system using the DIC display, display the “REMAINING OIL LIFE” on the DIC, hold the SET/CLR or Tick button until the oil life is changed to 100%.

To reset the system using the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition on and fully press the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
